Since we returned from Berlin, GoodBooks have been a little lazy on the whole blogging front, so i thought i’d just say hello and that we’re still alive. Here’s a song by Lykke Li for your enjoyment . . .

So yeah..GoodBooks had their DJing debut on German radio station , Fritz Radio last night, in the shape of a pretty tasty half hour mix tape, consisting of some of our favourite tunes to play out when we DJ, all mixed, edited and chopped up. It was a blast to do and we think it’s tops..so here it is for your pleasure..feel free to say how much you love it, hate it and push it around the interweb for everyone to enjoy!

Anna’s gone home now, which is a bit strange. It’s been awesome having her here, even if she did keep me up til 6bloody30am yesterday morning discussing life, goodbooks and life. GoodTimes though.
So last night we went to see the Berlin Philharmonic with Daniel Barenboim playing Beethoven. Suffice it to say that it was the single most brilliant piece of art of any kind I have ever witnessed. I’ll say no more, after all we are punks not voilists…
Then we went to a club called Weekend. It’s on the 12th floor of an office block. It’s reputed to be on the 14th floor, but the guy in the lift was definitely pressing 12. Either way, it must have one of the most spectacular views in Berlin – you can see for as far as you can think, and when we got in there it was really empty (they go out later here than we do in London…), so we had just the five of us (we found a replacement for Anna) and the Lost in Translation soundtrack… and it was a really beautiful half hour until it got busy.
Sadly the rest I can’t really blog about. You know the kind of thing though. Awful dancing. Eyeball-licking. Naps. Mental. The gold team certainly earned many points.
It is nice to let ‘match fitness’ go a bit sometimes; mostly I have to keep a handle on any misbehaviour, but knowing we won’t be playing for a bit means I don’t have to worry about being able to sing on demand. It can’t last forever, but for now I’m loving just going with it. Tonight we’re having some friends round for dinner. Leo is cooking. Am I excited? Yes I am.

You may or may not know that we are currently residing in Berlin for a few weeks and as such have been using the myspace blog to let you all know what’s going on. But since the addtion of the Journals, the blogs will also be on here! so here is the first myspace and Journals blog for you, ‘Berlin day 9′ . . .
“There is a bar somewhere in the East where there is a ping pong table, and all the punters do every night is play round the table, in fair Berlin where we lay our scene. I played one exquisite shot, then plenty of survival ones, where you just nip it over the net and fuck the other guy over. We met an interesting cast of characters who made up our opponents for the evening.
- First and most importantly there was ‘Amazing girl’. She clearly goes to Dr. Pong (the name of this fair establishment) most evenings, and wins most games. Bare skills. And also clearly queen of the joint… if someone thought they’d been got out unfairly, due to an obstruction of somesuch, they’d look to her for approval to remain on the table. This bitch was cool.
- Then there was the guy who looked like a mix between Brad Pitt, JK from Jamiroquai, and our A&R Man at Columbia, Ollie Hodge. He was also bare skilled. Most finals included ‘Brad’ and ‘Amazing girl’. Interestingly, Brad also added an extra dimension of lackadaisicality to the proceedings by swinging his paddle in the right, while nursing a beer and a cig in the left. Punk didn’t die, it just went to Berlin
- ‘Hat Man 1′ had a few good finals, but ultimately lacked the consistency to stay on the table too often.
- ‘Hat Man 2′ just looked like a dick.
- ‘Barry from EastEnders’ turned up late. Won a few rounds. Then left. I think he was a little too cool to compete for too long.
- ‘Mark from EastEnders’… what it says on the tin.
- ‘Russell from The Research’… look up ‘I Love You But…’ by The Research. Lovely song.
- ‘Tom Cruise’ clearly thinks that the rules only apply to others. Many times was he beaten, and yet often he would return to the field of play. He also felt the need to speak English at me, while standing verrrry close. Most offputting.
- ‘Shit girl’ I think was a good friend of ‘Amazing girl’, but tended to be the first person to get out each round. It must be tough having a tabletennis-obsessive best friend if you’re not prepared to go along and get knocked out first every now and then. Props to her for the endurance. Dignity girl, dignity.
In other news, we began the evening at a place called Postbanhof, where two bands were playing – the first was called ‘I Might Be Wrong’, and I liked them quite a lot – bought their album and all. have a look at myspace.com/youmightbewrong. Also we saw a bit of ‘Get Well Soon’, who had great T-shirts saying ‘The Meaning of Life is…’ then the rest obscured by two fighting bears, but didn’t quite rock me to my core. But it all felt a bit like being in London, so we weren’t there that long.
And we found another decent bar, where Anna was working on a hot Swede, then we went home.
Anna’s off today, which is sad. We’re feeling half-way-ish, because for the four of us our halfway mark is about a day or two away.
Now the shower’s free, I’m off.
